Madeleine is a lawyer and an equity partner of Elliot Tuthill Solicitors, a firm that has celebrated over 63 years of providing legal services within the Cronulla area and Sutherland Shire.
History
Her early career was with the Rural Bank of New South Wales which she believes instilled in her a careful and methodical approach to book keeping and a complete knowledge of banking at branch level.
Madeleine left the bank to marry and to travel extensively to United Kingdom and Europe. Madeleine has two adult children and one delightful little granddaughter. She has enjoyed skiing in many wonderful areas of the world and is an avid fan of the Wallabies and the Australian Cricket Team. Her travels have created in her a great interest in other countries, languages and cultures and an understanding that all people have different capacities and different opportunities but remain entitled to be appreciated for their worth.
Madeleine’s educational qualifications are:
1987 Higher School Certificate.
1994 Bachelor of Legal Studies
2002 Master of Laws
2004 Specialist Accreditation in Wills & Estate Law
Experience
With her banking/bookkeeping background and her more recent legal education, Madeleine understands the way in which accounting and law interact in the various areas of law in which she practises: family law, succession and estate law; trust law, superannuation and commercial litigation.
Madeleine’s accreditation ensures she has thorough knowledge of the recent amendments to the New South Wales succession laws and has given presentations to lawyers and other charitable institutions on the topic. She keeps up to date with current issues and regularly attends quarterly meetings of the accredited specialists in Wills & Estate Law.
Her career has involved her in the hearing and the appeal of commercial litigation matters. She has had many successes at Court with matters that involve claims upon estates, acting both for executors and for claimants.
Even though Madeleine is comfortable in preparing matters for hearing, her primary focus is to solve her clients’ legal problems quickly and without incurring too much pain and expense. This is not always possible, of course, but she finds great reward in helping her clients finalise a matter with a sensible and fair approach. Many of Madeleine’s matters have finalised by her preparing documents that reach agreement by both sides rather than requiring the expensive and stressful process of litigation.
Since 2009, Madeleine has served as the Secretary to the St George Sutherland Law Society which is an honorary position. Through this role, Madeleine liaises with many lawyers in the regions of St George and Sutherland Shire, various officers of the Law Society of New South Wales, Judges and barristers.
Madeleine is available to meet with you between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
Testimonials
"Hi Madeleine,
Thank you for the final cheque which I received during the week. It was a lovely surprise.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all your advice and guidance over the past 18 months. There have certainly been many twists and turns, and at times we thought we may have made a mistake pursuing this, but you were always there encouraging us to push on despite the emotional rollercoaster.
Both Carla and I are very happy with the outcome that's been achieved by both yourself and the barrister and we know that we couldn't have been in better hands. We certainly hope that we never encounter another situation like this in the future but if we did we've got you on speed dial! We would highly recommend you to all of our family and friends.
Thank you again and best of luck in the future. Kindest regards."

Madeleine was sensitive, caring and understanding to my needs and in regards to the situation I was in, however always maintained her professionalism. I would have no hesitation in using Madeleine again and highly recommending her to others."
