Elliot Tuthill Solicitors - Cronulla Sydney

OUR HISTORY

The founder of Elliot Tuthill was Dudley Charles Howard Elliot. When Dudley returned from service with the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II, he first established the firm in 1947 under the name of D C H Elliot Solicitors. The firm was located just north of where the Cronulla Post Office now stands.

Over the next eight years, Dudley entered into partnership with three other sole-practitioners within the Sutherland Shire and established offices at Miranda, Caringbah and Sutherland, whilst still maintaining the Cronulla Office.

In 1958, the four partners elected to separate and operate on his own. It was at this time that the office of DCH Elliot Solicitors was moved to its current location at 119 Cronulla Street, Cronulla.

In 1960, Dudley introduced a new partner, William Dugdale Tuthill. Bill had retired to Cronulla from Bowral after serving with the Australian Army in World War II. The new partnership was named Elliot Tuthill Solicitors.

Shortly after the formation of Elliot Tuthill Solicitors, John Jordan was invited to become a Partner of the firm after beginning his career in law as an Articles Clerk with Elliot Tuthill in 1952. Bill passed away soon after establishing the new partnership in the early 1960’s and Dudley retired from the firm in 1970 after 23 years of practising Law in Cronulla.

In 1976, John Jordan’s son, David Jordan, began working towards his admission as a Legal Practitioner with Elliot Tuthill Solicitors. David was admitted in 1981 and became a partner of Elliot Tuthill in 1988.

Elliot Tuthill has since developed a dedicated team of staff of 21 people, several of whom have been with the firm for over seventeen years. One staff member boasts 36 years of loyal service.

Earlier this year, John retired from his position as Partner and became a consultant to the firm, at which time, Madeleine Reid, who had been an employed Solicitor with Elliot Tuthill since 1994, accepted the invitation to become a Partner of our firm.

Since our establishment in 1947, we have prided ourselves on providing quality legal assistance to each of our clients and we are committed to ensuring that our staff will continue with this tradition.
